Bernstein-Rein: Merry Mashup

The ad agency holiday card is one of those obligatory creative exercises. It’s like calling your mom on her birthday. If you don’t do it, then it’s assumed that something is horribly wrong. (And oh lord are you going to hear about it tomorrow.)

Ostensibly, this ‘card’ is an opportunity to show off your agency’s creative talent under the guise of wishing clients and vendors a happy holiday. (Ad people are sneaky like that.) More recently, these things have become little more than a “Hey, look at this clever way we used [Flash, Twitter, Foursquare, Augmented Reality, Buzzword]!”

My goal with this video was to make something that was genuinely fun. Not just fun to watch, but something fun that everyone in the agency had the opportunity to be a part of. Apart from the stress of a logistically nightmarish shoot and a monster edit job, I think we pulled that off.

Other than some amazing editing by Jordan Gray, gorgeous videography by Mammoth and brilliant sound design and composition from Noel Selders, there’s very little whizzbang technology involved. It’s just a simple little music video that hopefully made some people grin. We do our best work here when we start with a good idea, not an execution in search of an idea.
